World-class healthcare executive, former Global Chief Medical Officer of Strategy, Partnerships, and Informatics at healthcare powerhouse Royal Philips, is also a medical doctor, surgeon, and university professor

SAN FRANCISCO – Tuesday, November 27, 2018 – Slone Partners, North America’s leading executive search firm for life sciences and diagnostics companies, announces the placement of Roy Smythe, M.D. at SomaLogic, Inc. as Chief Executive Officer. Now responsible for strategically developing, commercializing, scaling, and fund-raising for the company, Dr. Smythe will be based in Boulder, Colorado and report to SomaLogic’s board of directors, including founder Larry Gold, Ph.D.

With 200 employees worldwide, SomaLogic is a leader in the nascent and cutting-edge world of proteomics, the study and measurement of proteins, to create a more impactful deployment of precision medicine and personalized medicine. Using advanced proprietary technological breakthroughs that leverage Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, SomaLogic currently measures some 5,000 human proteins out of the approximately 20,000 proteins in the human proteome, which SomaLogic believes has groundbreaking potential as early warning systems for disease. Understanding that proteins are unique diagnostics systems for each individual patient, SomaLogic translates proteomics into actionable insights, empowering both patients and caregivers to use each individual’s highly-personalized protein information to manage patient health in real time.

Prior to joining SomaLogic, Dr. Smythe served as Chief Medical Officer for Strategy, Partnerships and Informatics at global healthcare company Royal Philips. Prior to Royal Philips, he held Chief Medical Officer positions at Valence Health and AVIA, both in Chicago. He is a medical doctor, a trained surgeon, researcher, and a university professor, having earned his M.D. with highest honors from Texas A&M University College of Medicine, and his B.S. in Biology from Baylor University. Dr. Smythe also served as Professor of Surgery, Medicine and Molecular Medicine at University of Texas’ M.D. Anderson Cancer Center; and chaired the Department of Surgery at Scott & White Healthcare at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, where he also served as Medical Director of Innovation.

Says Roy Smythe, M.D. about Slone Partners, “I have worked with all of the large search firms over the past twenty years – either as a candidate or as a client.  What stood out about working with Slone Partners was the incredible attention to consistent and timely communication during the process. When being evaluated for a leadership role at this level – meeting with executives, employees, board members, and others – having Slone Partners as ‘air traffic control’ during the process was most appreciated.”
