The American Clinical Laboratory Association represents the issues of the nation’s major clinical labs before Congress, federal agencies, the states, and the news media, and gives labs a means to talk to each other to set standards of quality, service and ethical conduct. Alan Mertz has been in charge of ACLA’s efforts as president since 2003. He worked for nearly 20 years in senior staff positions in the House and Senate and is a frequent lecturer at American University, from which he earned a master’s degree in American politics.
